5 Tips on How to Create a Successful Pitch

In the PR world, writing and sending pitches make up about 75% of your day. Great pitches are the deciding factor between whether your client will receive the attention and recognition they need to grow their business, so it is crucial that you are presenting them in the best way possible. When creating a pitch it is important to keep these 5 things in mind:

  1. Make sure your subject line is short and engaging. Journalists receive tons of pitches on a daily basis and it is important to make sure YOUR pitch stands out. The subject line should be clear and to the point while also being able to highlight the main point of the pitch you are sending.

  2. Include links to products, the client website and social media handles. If you are one of the lucky pitches to be opened, it is important that your message serves as a one stop shop for any and all information a journalist may need to write about your product/service.

  3. Attach 2-3 high resolution images of your product/service in action. Once a journalist decides that your pitch would be a great fit for their publication, they typically will need imagery to include with the story. Make sure to have images already attached to the pitch that they can use for publication.

  4. Have a story to tell. Your pitch should do more than explain who/what your client is, it should tell a story about what makes them stand out, how your client is solving a problem and/or explain why people should know about this specific product or service.

  5. Keep it short and to the point. It is important to try to keep your pitch under 500 words. Journalists receive so many pitches on a daily basis that if you are one of the lucky ones that they are able to open and read through, make sure they can capture the gist of your story in as little time as possible.

I hope this helps you on your PR journey and good luck pitching!
