Labor Day Weekend: 5 Ways to Celebrate the End of Summer

Is it just me or does it seem like those three months of summer always fly by? We are already in August and before we know it Labor Day weekend will be knocking at our door. As someone who loves the fall and the holiday season, I can say that although I don’t look forward to the cold weather, I am looking forward to the beginning of a new season, literally and figuratively. Before the kids go back to school and we return to the hustle and bustle of the new season, I believe we all deserve to set aside time to truly enjoy that last real weekend of summer. Here are five new ways you can celebrate the end of summer:

  1. Take A Staycation: Everyone knows that traveling during Labor Day Weekend is probably the last thing any of us want to do. The roads are backed up with last minute beach goers and the airports are packed with people squeezing in that last minute vacation. This year, try finding a nice hotel or AirBNB near you and just take the weekend to soak up the sun and spend time with family, or yourself, without the stress of having to travel to do so.

  2. Start A New Hobby: Before it gets cold and you no longer have the energy to do so, start a new hobby! Sign yourself up for that weekly yoga class you have been eyeing. Buy that book that you saw on @wellreadblackgirl and commit to reading 30 minutes a day. Join the gym so that by the time the winter hits, you are well into your fitness routine. Beat the winter blues before it happens.

  3. Hit A Rooftop: Before the weather drops, find your nearest rooftop bar, or restaurant that offers aesthetically pleasing outdoor dining, and indulge! I love a good outdoor vibe and it won’t be long before it will be too cold to really enjoy the experience. Throw on your last cute summer outfit and make that reservation!

  4. Go Shopping: Take advantage of those Labor Day sales! Labor Day Weekend is the perfect time to do some last minute back to school/work shopping and get ahead on the holiday rush.

  5. Clean & Reset Your Space: Although this may be more fun for my Type A folks, take the weekend to deep clean your space and redecorate. Move some furniture around, swap out the towels in the bathroom, change your bed set. Labor Day weekend is the perfect time to reset your space and prepare for the new season.

Enjoy that final weekend people!
