Namaste or Namastizzle?
Imagine after a long, exhausting day in a world full of chaos and confusion, attending a yoga class to finally get some peace and quiet to relax and forget your problems if but for an hour. Your yoga mat is rolled out, hair is pulled back, eyes closed and you’re ready for Himalayan chanting, deep breathing, meditation and stretching to achieve the perfect zen.
Namaste.
Until, a golden goddess with a large curly afro and perfectly sculpted body with a raspy voice cloaked in confidence announces that she’s your instructor and instead of the tranquil sounds of wind chimes, you hear “Hard in the Paint” by Waka Flocka.
Welcome to Trap Yoga. Your host, Yoga Bae.
For the next 55 minutes, club volume trap music, vinyasa style body strengthening poses, profuse sweating, deep breathing, and reflection, all encompassed by ratchet affirmations, periodic twerk breaks and a whole lot of empowering black girl magic doesn’t just take your mind off of your problems, it gives you hope to face them head on.
Trap Yoga as instructed by Yoga Bae has a philosophy based in the belief that mental and physical health are interrelated and should be conditioned together. Understanding that the world is often loud, dichotomous and ratchet, Yoga Bae attempts to coordinate breathing & movement, while instructing over familiar and distractingly awesome beats. The world of Trap and Yoga combines to help participants improve concentration to ultimately control of their body and mind. It’s the perfect blend of trap and zen.
The Couture Agency is proud to announce Yoga Bae as our newest client. Yoga Bae tours internationally and classes start at $25. For more information including interviews, tour schedule, and how to register, e-mail hello@thecoutureagency.com.
