Finding Your Niche
In this era of entrepreneurship, it seems that the pressure is on everyone to be their own boss. In this capitalist society it is almost unheard of to only have one stream of income and alot of people used the pandemic as a time to slow down, re-evaluate their situations and turn their hobbies into lucrative side hustles. However, what most people fail to realize is that most small businesses will not be successful, in spite of the success stories and photos of sold out inventory you may see on social media. It may seem easy to just wake up and decide to dip your toe in the entrepreneurial pool but you are in for a rude awakening. Now I do believe that as long as you believe in yourself, you can be successful, but you also have to have a strategy in place. Part of that strategy has to be having something that makes your business stand out from everyone else’s in a saturated market.
If you decide you want to sell body butters, what makes your brand stand out from the popular coconut butter on the shelf at Trader Joe’s? Does it have a special ingredient that makes it penetrate the skin and last longer than any other brand? If you wake up and want to be an event planner in your free time, why should someone take a chance with your business over a more established brand? Are your events always able to portray an aura of luxury while staying within a client’s budget? What makes you stand out? What is your niche? If you are considering starting your own business, remember that as long as you believe in yourself and can clearly articulate your key selling points, you are ready to start your brand building journey.
