The Black Girl Magic Brands You Didn't Know You Needed in Your Life
Everyday, I scroll through social media and stumble upon a new Black woman owned brand that is creating high quality products with engaging and creative marketing. According to the US Census Bureau, about 28.5% of businesses are owned by African Americans. Black women make up the majority of that group and have the highest percentage of ownership compared with men in their racial category. It is important that Black women support each other more than ever and highlighting these brands and the amazing Black bosses behind them is one way to do so. Here are five Black Girl Magic brands that you didn’t know you needed in your life:
JSCULPT Fitness: Created in July 2017 as a solution to the struggles Jaz Jackson faced when working out, the JSCULPT Fitness Belt not only provides back support and flexibility but also gives full coverage to women of all shapes and sizes. The three-tier belt can be worn during high-intensity and cardio workouts to promote sweating of the midsection, which leads to water weight loss and reduced inches in the midsection. It can also be worn under clothing at any time for a visually slimming effect. With the support of her “JSCULPT Babes,” Jackson has created an entire line of fitness products that include fitness belts, resistance bands, and gym apparel.
Kristian Loren:After years of working in product development, production and sales and studying design on nights and weekends at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Kristian Loren Lopez started her own fashion line. The Kristian Loren line was created to make clothing that gives women their own outlet of sex-expression, leaving hints of magic everywhere they go. In 2018, Lorén was named one of Essence Magazine’s ‘Designers to Watch,’ and her looks were featured in Essence’s Fest Fashion House 2019. Kristian Lorén is now sold in Bloomingdales, has been seen in Keen Magazine, Lucy’s Magazine, and Alice Magazine, and has been worn on the red carpet by Madison Rian, Shahadi Wright, Luvvie Ajayi, and Damaris Lewis.
5th and Coleman: Created by the beautiful Coleman family, this interior decorating company’s mission is to bring you unique & affordable home décor items without taking a shortcut on quality. Most of their pillows are hand-made at their headquarters to ensure that you're getting exactly what you order. They believe that decorating your home doesn't have to be so expensive that it's out of your reach and they have created the perfect items for your sanctuary with that in mind.
High Voltage Nails: Founded by Howard grads Tamu Deskins and Jordan Williams , High Voltage Nails is a high quality press-on nail company that provides a flawless manicure in less time and less money than the usual salon trip. Each set comes with glue, a nail buffer, cuticle pusher and nail file. They also sell a number of trendy and affordable accessories like jewelry and sunglasses to keep you on point no matter the occasion.
Agrestal Beauty: During a soul-searching journey in 2017, founder Emilia Ramos envisioned an all-natural skincare line where self love and skincare collided. Her vision was to create an effective, natural and handmade skincare line that offered a sense of luxury to anyone who used it. Agrestal Beauty was developed to not only be a premium plant-based skincare line, but to also spread self-love with every product, message and image.
